Back in early Spring I stopped in the LA mega-comics store, Meltdown, with some time to kill. It was an eye-opening experience… In addition to the super hero, muscle-y, action-adventure joints I was expecting, there was also a rash of surprisingly delightful, small-run indie comics that challenge the tradition of fantastical, flashy graphics and exclamatory story lines.

One that stood out in particular was Leah Hayes’ “Holy Moly.” My boyfriend bought it and it has since made the circuit amongst friends and coworkers. It’s simple (ballpoint on lined paper) and artful with themes/concepts as opposed to cohesive plot lines. It’s also really fucking funny and sweet, dealing with basic human emotions like love and loneliness. In other words, it’s the shit.

So, as you can guess, we had already fallen head over heels in love with Leah (a fellow-Brooklynite) before we contacted her about doing a piece for the next issue of JAM. Meeting her in person sealed the deal. Absolutely stunning (who else can pull off a beret and red lipstick like that?), smart, and mega-talented (she’s in a bunch of bands and throws legendary acoustic jam sessions at her house)–we’re super psyched that she agreed to do a two-page spread for us!!

Most likely if you’re reading this you’re either a friend, a friend of a friend, a Myspace “friend,” or you’re looking for porn or some Phishy hippie shit, both of which you will not find here.

What will you find? Oh YOU…As if you didn’t know! JAM is about one thing and one thing only…HOT DUDES! The first issue of the mag hit the streets in March and we’re working on the second one right now. But print takes too long! People need hot dudes and they need them NOW! Hence…this website.

Our mission statement (which is being formulated in my pea brain as I write this) is to…uhhh…bring hot dudes to the masses. No. That’s not right. It’s tooooo…give all the cool, perhaps somewhat jaded chicas of this fine city someone to drool over. A pretty picture to hang on their bedroom wall. A little context. A distraction from all their day-to-day blahs. The key words are dreamy, fun, er…hot and…dudes? Ok, I already said that.

So maybe that’s not a mission statement per se, but you get the idea. Bookmark this site now and come back often for pics and bios of REAL guys (not celebs) for you to swoon over. I’m still brainstorming ideas for the site, but a few features you can expect to see in coming weeks/months…
